Ed MacDonald, a member of the NEMSPA Board of Directors, was honored with the JIM CHARLSON AWARD for 2007 at the Air Medical Transport Conference in Tampa. The Jim Charleson award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the overall enhancement, development or promotion of aviation and aviation safety within the air medical transport community. Persons elegible for the award include anyone directly involved in the medical transport community who has made a contribution which enhanced the safety of a program, mission, or the medical transport community as a whole. The award is sponsored by American Eurocopter.

Ed is a past president of NEMSPA, Co-Chairman of the AAMS/CORE Safety Committee and Secretary/Treasurer of the Air Medical Safety Advisory Council.  He flew for Unocal for PHI from 1989-1993 and Samaritan Air Evac for PHI from 1993-1997.  Since June 2004 Ed has been Safety Manager and Lead pilot for PHI at their base in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
